1958 VW Beetle
We went hiking at Wilson's Promontory. When we returned to the trail head after a few days, exhausted, the car wouldn't start. In the picture below I am checking the engine's earth connection or something. As it turned out, the battery had simply died without warning. We managed to push-start the beast and kept it running on the generator all the way home.
I bought a new custom-built 6-volt battery about two days before the engine suddenly lost a valve seat and declared its overdue retirement. The car had gone through five or six engines in its life, but this was the last straw for me. I made the very difficult decision to send the old green machine outside of the family after four generations and 36 years.
Note the original dark green paint colour inside the doors.
