Craig’s Guitar

In 1987 I made my first and only musical instrument, a steel string acoustic guitar. I'd seen an old book on guitar making in the library several years before, and the idea had appealed to me. I managed to find another couple of publications on the subject in music and technical book shops in the city. Along with a volume or two on violin making, I felt prepared to undertake the challenge.

I had no real experience or skills in wood working, and very basic resources. My only power tools were an angle grinder and drill. These were pre-internet days. Information on such obscure subjects as luthiery was extremely hard to come by, let alone the encouragement of seeing what others have done. Anyone contemplating a similar project today would have access to vastly more information. A good start would be this Guitar Building page, for example.
